Question

[Solved] Error inflating class fragment InflateException Binary XML file

I am designing my first application using Material Design and the NavigationDrawer Layout etc, and I am running into an issue. The app is very simple (it just displays text) and is based off the template available in Android Studio.

When trying to launch my application I get the following Logcat error:

If you require any more code please do not hesitate to ask. Thanks!

Solution #1:

In your fragment_navigation_drawer.xml give an id to your Listview and in your onCreateView of NavigationDrawerFragment.java file.

View myParentView = inflater.inflate(
        R.layout.fragment_navigation_drawer, container, false);
mDrawerListView = (ListView) myParentView.findViewById(R.id.listview);
// the listview is the id you gave to you listview in xml

Change this:

mDrawerListView.setAdapter(new ArrayAdapter<String>(
            getActionBar().getThemedContext()

To:

mDrawerListView.setAdapter(new ArrayAdapter<String>(
            getActivity(),

Now you can continue (this is precaution code).

Solution #2:

I had the same problem:

My solution was to add mDrawerLayout=null;in onCreate() before selectItem(mCurrentSelectedPosition);.

Solution #3:

None of the above worked for me. What actually worked is to remove
android:theme="...." from application xml tag in AndroidManifest.xml file OR add a theme that supports ActionBar. Hope this helps to save someone the struggle that I had.

This issue occurred when I created a Navigation Drawer Activity in Android Studio 2.3.3 with API 25.

Solution #4:

I had the same problem and it turned out I made my application full screen and with no action bar.

I fixed the problem by changing my theme to one that had the action bar.
